Eenhana Nust campus fully kicks off
The Nust team has officially opened their new Eenhana campus in the Ohangwena region and has more than 200 students enrolled thus far.
Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) has embarked on a regional expansion drive after officially opening a campus in the town of Eenhana, in the Ohangwena region. The establishment of the Eenhana satellite campus is in line with achieving the strategic objective of maintaining a local presence, extending the national footprint and international reach. On Thursday, 10 March 2022, the opening brought opportunities for the small town.
The campus is located at the Billy William Mwaningange Rural Development centre in Eembaxu, 20 kilometres to Eenhana.
Walde Ndevashiya, governor of Ohangwena Region, said the new campus was fully welcomed as it was necessitated by the growing need of young people who would like to further their education.
“Ohangwena region is one of the regions that has been without an institution of higher learning in Namibia therefore today marks a very significant occasion in the history of Ohangwena region that will have a positive impact on the lives of our young people,” he said.
Ndevashiya added that education institutions have a key role to play in any society to drive innovation, with the aim of finding solutions to everyday challenges in areas that matter to society, especially healthcare, environmental protection, food security, water, climate change, and population trends.
“Consequently, the wider economy benefits from the university research and innovation as it drives investment, both locally and nationally, promote exports, and makes the economy more balanced,” he said.
Prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila applauded Nust for their commitment to ensuring education is a sector that is invested in.
“We live in a time of rapid change, and we must ensure that as a country we are not left behind. To do so, we must be prepared to invest in knowledge and skills. There is no better investment we can make, as a country, than in the education of our people. I am pleased that Nust is committed to offer the highest quality of education at its various campuses, and this campus can, therefore, expect only the best quality of education,” she said.
Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba was named the official patron of Nust Eenhana campus and received donations of N$1 million from Namdia and First National Bank of Namibia respectively.
