The Namibia Meteorological Service issued a warning of hailstorms in these regions for Monday and today, and cautioned the public to be on the alert and take the necessary precautions.

A hailstorm had already descended on Windhoek on Sunday afternoon, covering the city in a blanket of ice.

While residents rejoiced in the first rains of the season, it did however, cause damage in some places.

At a complex in Avis, a suburb of Windhoek, the severe hail and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds uprooted a tree that crashed onto a fence surrounding the complex.

Windhoek residents also reported gardens being destroyed by the hail, which was described as being as large as ice cubes and a first for the capital.
