JUST IN: Moved to dry land

Tuyeimo Haidula
It was a sombre moment yesterday as George Ngololo, headman of the Onaminda village in the Oshikango Constituency, led officials from the Ohangwena Regional Council Disaster Risk Management Committee and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister to evacuate and relocate his people to dry land.

The floods, which arrived in Ohangwena Region earlier this month, caused extensive destruction to mahangu fields and destroyed some of the homesteads. Close to 20 homesteads have been affected at Onaminda.

The Namibian Defence Force also arrived late yesterday afternoon to move people trapped in their homes by water.
