Shikongo refutes discrimination against seven-seaters
News in short
Namibian Police Inspector-General Joseph Shikongo has refuted allegations that traffic officers discriminate against drivers of seven-seater vehicles. "I want to clarify that the Namibian Police has never instructed or authorised discriminatory practices in enforcing [the law] which would unfairly target seven-seater transport operators," he said. Seven-seater vehicles with valid public permits are allowed to operate within the terms of their permits, he said.
"Vehicles operating without public transportation permits are treated the same as any other operators lacking such permits. Our traffic law enforcement officers carry out their duties professionally and without favouritism or discrimination," he said.
"It is important to note that if a vehicle operator is found transporting passengers for reward without the necessary legal permit, they will face legal consequences in accordance with the relevant statutes," the police chief added.
