Eurowings Discover expected back in Windhoek today
Various officials have confirmed that Eurowings Discover will once again land at Hosea Kutako International Airport from Frankfurt as of this morning.
This follows a debacle at the airport over the past weekend, when the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) ejected Menzies and Paragon Holdings took over ground handling services at the airport.
Eurowings Discover, part of the Lufthansa Group, diverted two of its flights to Johannesburg.
As a result, Airlink stepped in and operated special flights to transport passengers from Johannesburg to Windhoek.
Multiple sources within the aviation and tourism industries, speaking anonymously to Namibian Sun, indicated that a Eurowings Discover flight was scheduled to take off from Frankfurt last night and arrive at Windhoek airport this morning.
While they could not speak on behalf of the airline, the sources said as the airline is expected to resume flights to Namibia, it is assumed that legal issues and contracts have been handled.
Flights to continue
In a brief statement issued by Paragon, the company confirmed that Eurowings Discover has announced that two of its aircraft will depart from Frankfurt yesterday evening, arrive at the airport early this morning, and be handled by Paragon.
"Just like Quatar Airways and all other airlines, Lufthansa will likewise continue with their flights to and from Hosea Kutako, and their flights will be handled by Paragon."
Eurowings Discover could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
Sources said Eurowings Disover was reportedly waiting on a court verdict slated for yesterday before deciding to sign a contract, but flights will continue.
The High Court yesterday heard an urgent application by Menzies against the NAC, Paragon and others.
