The environment and tourism ministry has handed over two newly acquired trucks, valued at over N$7 million, to Etosha National Park.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Okaukuejo, tourism minister Indileni Daniel said the vehicles – a Mercedes-Benz 33 Series Dropside Truck and a Powerstar Chassis Cab Water Tank Truck – were procured by the ministry through the game products trust fund.

“These trucks will significantly enhance our operational capacity by providing essential water supplies to anti-poaching patrols and staff in the field supporting fence construction and maintenance and firebreak creation to mitigate veld fires.”

Additionally, the vehicles will support the general management of Etosha National Park.

Where necessary, they may also be deployed to assist personnel in other national parks and conservation areas, she added.

Meanwhile, office equipment, accommodation materials, and kitchen supplies were also handed over to the Namutoni Environmental Education Centre in Etosha National Park.

The office equipment included one projector, two desktop computers, three monitor screens, one printer, and two laptops.

Accommodation materials handed over included pillowcases, pillow inners, mattress protectors and fitted sheets.

The Namutoni Environmental Education Centre plays a vital role in raising environmental awareness among school and university groups, youth and individuals.

“While the centre continues to serve these groups effectively, it requires improvements to enhance its image and provide better services to schools, universities and other user groups,” the minister said.
