Cabinet has approved the official hunting season for this year, which will run from 1 May to 31 August, allowing the hunting of various game species on qualifying commercial farms and registered conservancies.

Information minister Emma Theofelus made the announcement following the second Cabinet meeting held on 8 April.

According to the decision, huntable game species may be hunted from 1 May to 31 August on commercial farms of at least 1 000 hectares that are enclosed with registered game-proof fencing, as well as on registered conservancies with approved quotas.

Additionally, hunting will be permitted from 1 June to 31 July on commercial farms of at least 1 000 hectares that are enclosed with adequate livestock fencing.

Meanwhile, the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA) has assured stakeholders that hunting trophies are exempt from the newly introduced US tariff policy.

This comes after the United States, under a policy dating back to former President Donald Trump’s administration, imposed so-called "reciprocal tariffs" of 21% on Namibian goods. The tariffs took effect on 5 April.

In a recent NAPHA newsletter, a letter from Michael Coppersmith, national coordinator of Coopersmith Global Logistics, clarified that personal sport-hunted shipments are excluded from these tariffs.

“Please note that purchased items such as curios, trophies from stock, and items made from animal products are not exempt,” Coppersmith said.

He explained that the exemption ensures the shipping process for sport-hunted trophies remains unaffected by the tariff changes, reducing delays and additional costs for hunters.

Coppersmith Global Logistics is a full-service international shipping company that specialises in US customs brokerage, international freight forwarding, and door-to-door logistics. With offices across major US gateways and a global network of agents, the company offers comprehensive import and export services.
