Salt IT to host free cybersecurity training this Friday

Mariud Ngula
Salt Essential IT, in collaboration with the information ministry, will this Friday kick off their third round of the ‘Cybersecurity Awareness Training Sessions’ for the public at no cost.

The training is scheduled for the next eight weeks on Fridays from 10:00 to 11:00.

Held in line with the National Cybersecurity Awareness strategy and plan, the sessions form part of the cybersecurity awareness training series – per Salt IT and MICT’s memorandum of understanding – to influence the adoption of safer online behaviour and instil a culture of cyber-hygiene to avert cybercrime in the country.

How to register

Speaking to Namibian Sun, Salt’s empowerment specialist Vanessa Maresch said the first round of the sessions was held last year from October to November. She urged individuals to register and attend the cybersecurity training sessions at the following link: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/ad6c6a5b-482c-4de0-8f57-b0b6ffe9b8a7@d6c356eb-6188-4d16-9501-6df64f171dc1.

Maresch said Salt IT has so far trained 2 000 people across 14 organisations and intends to provide the training to every citizen in the country. “This is especially [for] high-risk individuals and organisations such as schoolchildren and the elderly, as well as small and medium businesses," she explained.

Free for organisations

She also urged interested entities to contact Salt Essential IT and arrange a free session for their organisation. “Our sessions are offered in person, virtually or hybrid. We also include a test for the attendees to test their knowledge, as well as activities in the sessions to practice newly acquired skills. We also welcome testimonials of individuals who have fallen victim to cybercrime to create further awareness on the issue,” Maresch said.
