Khomas region dominates NSSU athletics

The Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) had a successful 29th national athletics championship which saw a record of over 1000 athlete’s participating in the competition.
The best athletes from all 14 regions took part in the competition to compete for awards and records.
National coordinator for the NSSU Solly Duiker was happy with the turnout.
At the award ceremony there were 20 trophies, one for each category.
Khomas athletes scooped 11 of the trophies. Lumé Janse Van Rensburg dominated the under-13 girls group as she won Best Junior Female, Junior Track and Junior Victrix Ludorum. Matthew Raubenheimer was the best performer in the under-13 boys group, as he won Best junior Male, Junior Track and Junior Victor Ludorum.
Khomas athletes won a total of 105 medals - 39 gold, 35 silver and 31 bronze. Athletes from the Hardap region took home 14 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze medals, bringing their total to 37. Athletes from Ohangwena also put in a good performance as they won 11 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals for a total of 21 medals.
Christine Mboma, who became a star through competing at NSSU competitions, said, “I also started here and I didn’t stop. This event only happens once a year so athletes should train and work hard for leagues and different events happening throughout the year."
