Shikongo remains steadfast
Namibian Paralympic athlete Ananias Shikongo is far from contemplating an end to his illustrious career, firmly believing that he still has much to contribute.
The 37-year-old Paralympian, specialising in T11 short-distance events, remains steadfast in his commitment to professional competition, saying age is just a number.
Under the guidance of coach Letu Hamhola, Shikongo described their training regimen as rigorous.
"I'm attuned to my body and will continue competing this year," said the Rio De Janeiro Paralympic Games gold medallist in the 200m T11 category.
Shikongo, who is turning 38 in April, said he commenced his training programme two weeks ago, engaging in two daily sessions.
He completes a first run from 03:00 in the morning until 8:00, and the second session takes place in the afternoon from 16:00 to 19:00.

His upcoming competitions include the All Africa Games in March, the World Para Athletics Championships in May and the Paralympic Games in August. Having already secured qualification for the Paralympic Games, Shikongo is eagerly anticipating the challenges of the upcoming year.
"This is the year that people will be reminded of Shikongo. So, people must count down to all the competitions and continue supporting us," he urged.
"As for the young stars, please pick the right coaches. There are many in Namibia. Start training early and hard, and don't wait for someone to tell you to start training," advised Shikongo.
Accumulating numerous medals over the years, Shikongo is a highly decorated athlete who has participated in various competitions around the world.
