Premiership weekend matches tightly contested
Football back after hiatus
It was an action-packed weekend on Namibian football turfs for the premier league.
The Debmarine Namibia Premiership matches held on Saturday showcased fiercely competitive games with some impressive results. Newly promoted clubs continue to challenge the more established teams in the league, making for an unpredictable and thrilling season.
In Mariental, Khomas Nampol FC and Young African played to a goalless draw. Despite the lack of goals, Khomas Nampol coach Fortune Eichab viewed the outcome positively, especially considering it was an away match.
"While we didn’t capitalize on our chances, earning a point against Young African isn’t a bad result," Eichab said. "The players had only two weeks to prepare, which isn’t ideal, but that’s the Namibian way. I’m confident their game time and match fitness will improve as the league progresses."
In Okahandja, Eeshoke Chula Chula FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Okahandja United. Meanwhile, defending champions African Stars put on a commanding display, defeating Young Brazilians 4-1.
Newly promoted KK Palace continued their strong start, claiming a 2-1 victory over Mighty Gunners in an intense away game.
In Windhoek, Tigers FC leveraged their home advantage to beat Blue Waters 2-0 in a spirited encounter. Ongos FC also emerged victorious, defeating Blue Boys 1-0.
Julinho Athletics claimed all three points in their clash against Bucks Buccaneers, with a single goal proving decisive. Julinho coach Nelson Luis expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.
"It was a good game because we utilized the pitch effectively. Our counter-attacks worked in our favor, and I’m pleased with the result," Luis said. "The referees made some questionable decisions for both sides, but that’s human nature."
The Debmarine Namibia Premiership matches continued into late Sunday, promising even more excitement in the league's early stages.
