Ondangwa sports stadium set to host first games soon

Ondangwa Town Council CEO Ismael Namgongo last week said the construction of the Ondangwa sports stadium is progressing well and is expected to host its first games towards the end of this year.
The state-of-the-art facility, named the Northern Namibia High-Performance Sports Centre (NNHPSC), will serve as a beacon of hope, a hub of activity and a cornerstone for the development of sports in the Oshana Region, he said.
Namgongo said once completed, the stadium will be a significant asset to the community, providing a venue for people to participate in and enjoy a variety of sports.
“To the community of Ondangwa, this stadium will be more than just a venue for sports events. It will be a gathering place, a space where families can come together, where friendships can be forged and where a sense of unity and pride can flourish."
Council has spent over N$25 million on the project since 2017, and for the 2024–2025 financial year, it has budgeted more than N$16 million for the facility. Overall, it estimates the total cost of the project will reach N$240 million by 2030.
