NC mum on Cosmos role
One problem at a time
The Fifa Normalisation Committee is yet to touch base on the future and role of Namibia Football Association secretary-general Franco Cosmos, NC chairperson Bisey Uirab has revealed.
Fifa Normalisation Committee chairperson Bisey Uirab has promised the media that the committee will state its position on matters concerning the NFA secretary-general once it reaches that point.
Uirab and his committee this week held several marathon meetings with employees of the association but are allegedly yet to discuss the secretary-general, who normally runs the daily affairs of the association.
In Fifa’s letter that announced the appointment of the NC, the world governing football body claimed to have “observed that the attitude and role played by the secretary-general had largely contributed to the strong divisions amongst the members of the Executive Committee".
“I can tell you at this moment we have not touched on the SG position but we will communicate once there are any developments.
“I believe in an open-door policy and will therefore not keep anything from the media,” Uirab said.
The new NC, which is tasked to run the daily affairs of the association from 30 March to the end of April next year, this week held marathon meetings with the employees of the football association.
The expectations from Fifa are that the NFA has to iron out issues pertaining to the leadership and organisational structures of the association, which are currently in tatters, before conducting elections.
The Oshana football region has asked the normalisation committee why they had received a letter from Cosmos, while the Fifa-appointed committee is supposed to run the affairs of the football association.
In the letter written to the regions by Cosmos dated 6 April, the secretary-general requested the Oshana Regional Football League and other leagues to hold an elective AGM.
“This serves to remind you that the term of office for your current Executive Committee is due for elections on 21 July 2022.
“The NFA is hereby requesting that the Oshana regional league convene an elective AGM in terms of the ORFL statues,” the letter from Cosmos reads.
NC’s vetting in process
Uirab also confirmed that eligibility checks on the new NC members are continuing.
Uirab, Afra Schimming-Chase (vice-chairperson), Willy Mertens, Esmeralda Muhinatjo Katjaerua and Dinaa Shituula are all subject to an eligibility test in terms of the communique by Fifa.
“That process is still ongoing and will be communicated once it is done,” Uirab remarked.
