Namibian World Boxing Council (WBC) prospect referee and judge Fillemon Mweya will depart for the United Arab Emirates to officiate at two WBC Championship fights.Mweya was invited by WBC in Mexico to officiate two title fights in Dubai on 12 and 13 November respectively.
Some of the fights that will take place on the night are between British boxer Louie Lynn versus Indian boxer Asad Asif Khan and Ermal Hadribeaj against Romanian Daniel Buciuc.
British boxer Henry Turner will go up against Columbian Jorge Abel Bermudez, among others.
Happy opportunity
The local referee said the appointment is the result of hard work and dedication.
“I’m very happy to officiate on the high-class events promoted by the best promoters in the world; the show for 12 November will be promoted by Frank Warren, who promotes Tyson Fury, and the other show for 13 November will be promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr,” he said.
He explained that he has a good relationship with the WBC, which started in 2017.
“I attended many boxing conventions and referee and judge seminars in Ukraine, Mexico and Zimbabwe. They see my potential; the WBC is the highest boxing body in the world, and every boxer wants to fight for WBC titles,” said Mweya.
The best
“I will do what I do best in the ring. I’m used to big events, and in 2019 I was appointed to officiate WBC world title fights in Mexico and Cancun under the promotion of Oscar Dela Hoya.”
Mweya adds that he is inspired by the best boxing referees and judges in the world: Kenny Bayless, Daniel Van de Wiel, Steve Smoger, and Hector Afu.
