Mboma, Masilingi off to SA

Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi’s coach, Henk Botha, hopes his athletes will emulate their form of last season when they compete in their first official event outside Namibia for the year 2022.Masilingi and Mboma are among some of the faces Botha is taking to South Africa for a competition which is expected to attract top athletes.The athletes will compete in the 100m event and not their favourite 200m category.“They do look ready but one will only be able to tell based on the results, to see if they are actually fit enough and ready enough to take the world by storm."We are going to this one because we were invited and I feel it will also be a good event to test the athletes.“I am taking other athletes with as well that we are busy training,” Botha said.The two sprinting queens of Namibia are expected to race at 17:00 at Bloemfontein.Botha and the girls will then leave for the United Arab Emirates, before travelling to the United States of America for more competitions.“We have so many events coming up and I believe a busy season has just started.“There are a series of this continental Grand Prix in South Africa, but we are only going to attend this one and not the other series, given that we have other commitments,” Botha added.Masilingi and Mboma took the world by storm last year after winning several important races on the international scene.Their main highlight was competing in the Olympic 200m finals which saw Mboma claiming a silver medal ahead of a star-studded field.Mboma also claimed the 100m Wanda Diamond League 200m gold medal, while Masilingi scooped a 100m silver medal at the World Youth Championships in Kenya.Mboma made headlines in Kenya for winning the 200m gold medal, while also scooping silver in the 4x100m relay, alongside Ndawana Haitembu, Carien Oosthuizen and Nandi Vass.Namibia will once again rest their hopes on Mboma and Masilingi to carry the flag high at various global competitions this year.“Well, like I said earlier, results and times they score will determine their current conditions and what we will need to work on as coaches.“I am confident that these girls are going to produce another good season,” Botha said.
