As a result of the rain this past week, only one of Cricket Namibia’s one-day premier league games (50 overs) was played on Saturday in Windhoek.

The encounter between CCD Tigers 1 and the MR24/7 Welwitschias 1 from the coast was cancelled at Vegkop Stadium due to a drenched field.

And, instead of 09:30, the game between Imperial Wanderers 1 and Trustco United 1 started at 11:45 and was reduced to 36 overs (ov) per side.

Wanderers (155 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 21.4 ov) versus United (154/10 in 35.5)

At Wanderers in Pionierspark, the host secured a nine-wicket victory over United 1, which was sent in to bat first by skipper Nicholas Scholtz. The newcomer to United, Handré Klazinga on number six, had an excellent knock with perfect timing of the ball, scoring 45 runs from 50 deliveries that included two boundaries and two sixes.

He eventually ran out of batting partners and was caught behind the wicket from the second last ball of the 36th over (bowled by Karl Birkenstock) by wicketkeeper Lo-han Louwrens.

Klazinga and Henry Hayes on two (38, 50 balls, 5x4, 1x6, bowled by Dewald Nell) made the most runs for their side. The rest of the batters only contributed between one and 17 runs.

For Wanderers, Louwrens on two smashed 79 runs (not out) from 60 balls (9x4, 1x6), while Niko Davin on one was ferocious with 56 runs (43 b, 5x4, 3x6, caught by Tiaan Brandt, bowled by Michael van Lingen).

Bowling stats

Nyasha Nyasha took two wickets for 22 runs in seven overs for Wanderers, which included two maidens, while Birkenstock (2/25 in 4.5 ov) and Bernard Scholtz (2/33 in 8, 2 maidens) followed suit.

Hansie de Villiers (1/18 in 3), Dewald Nell (1/28 in 6.1) and Danie van Schoor (1/22 in 6) also bowled very economically.

Van Lingen (1/40 in 7.4, 1 maiden) took United’s solo wicket.

Points Table

Wanderers 1 16 points (5 matches, won 4). 2 Old Boys 16 (5, won 4). 3 Tigers 8 (3, won 2). 4 United 4 (6, won 1). 5 Welwitschias 4 (5, won 1).
