Hamilton revs up to visit Namibia again
• Reports of second visit to Namibia still to be confirmed
World champ Lewis Hamilton is reportedly planning to return to Namibia to promote a Hydrogen Off-Road World Championship.
Six-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will reportedly visit Namibia soon to promote the first Hydrogen Off-Road World Championship.
If this information, provided by a source, is accurate, it will be Hamilton's second visit to Namibia.
In August 2022, he travelled to Namibia and explored parts of the Namib Desert, with photos of him taking hot air balloon rides shared on social media platforms.
At the time, it was unclear if he was in Namibia for business or leisure, but unverified reports now suggest he will return to promote hydrogen off-road racing. While Hamilton owns the X44 team in the Extreme E racing series, he is not an active driver.
Alternative source of power
Extreme E (electric) is off-road racing that takes place in places that have been damaged or affected by climate change or human interference, thus taking fans deep into the heart of the most pressing issues facing the planet’s future and highlighting global issues that will hopefully inspire the next generation.
Spectators can only watch Extreme E racing on streaming sites, as the races take place in various places across the world. As it stands, the owner of Extreme E, Alejandro Agag, is reportedly planning a transition to hydrogen in 2025, and for that, they will reportedly be seeking collaboration with Namibian counterparts to make the acquisition of hydrogen possible.
Others involved in the racing series include legendary motorsport heavyweights Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, McLaren, Andretti and Chip Ganassi – with world champions across multiple disciplines competing in the series since it launched just over two years ago.
Transition
International media reports that many who own teams in Extreme, which will still run until next year, are looking forward to making a switch to Extreme H.
International reports state that Extreme H will become an FIA championship in 2025 and then a full world championship in 2026.
