Crystal Stream and Tierspoor shine in Rehoboth
Khomas Turf Club horse Crystal Stream won the A 1800 m race on Saturday at the May Day Rehoboth Winter Cup event that took place at the Rehoboth Turf.
Rockley Beach of Okahandja Racing was in second place, while Mboma came third.
The event, which was broadcast by the Namibia Media Holdings Network Television, saw 13 top races taking place.
The Nambred Maiden Graduation 1000m was dominated by Tierspoor, followed by Supporter and Right Win in third.
The Nambred A and D 18 000m was won by Black River, while Freedom Fighter came second and Ekuva third.
The Open 1400m, which also had many hoping for a top race, saw Able Surprise claiming the bragging rights, followed by Fort Love and Starlile in third.
President of the Namibia Horseracing Association Marthinus de Waal lauded the horse owners and jockeys for making the event possible.
De Waal also sang the praises of Namibia Media Holding’s NTV for broadcasting the event live.
“I want to thank everyone that made this event possible today, especially the Rehoboth Turf Club and all the jockeys and horse owners.
"We also want to thank Namibia Media Holdings that came on board to give us a live broadcast on their DSTV channel 285 and 94 on GOTV.
“This was something new to us and we can just appreciate the company for going out of their way to broadcast the event,” De Waal said.
The D 1000 was dominated by Kaapstad, with Unbroken Promises finishing in second, while Thomas Jefferson settled for third.
The graduation 1000m crown went to Stoute Man, while Forged in Flame took second spot and Sitting Bull was third.
Some of the famous horses absent from the event were Visigoth, Von Trotha and Bring Me More.
