Able Surprise wins MTC Winter Cup

The MTC Winter Cup concluded successfully over the weekend, with Able Surprise, owned by W T Christians, winning the Open 2 000m race at the Gobabis Turf.

In second and third place were Bold Diva from Angermund Racing and Starlile from Okahandja Racing, respectively.

MTC’s John Ekongo thanked the people of Gobabis and the organisers of the event. "We are happy. This is in line with what we wanted to do, and that is to support local horse racing. The Winter Cup lived up to expectations, and it was a great turnout. The popularity of horse racing as a sport is growing,” he said.

"The key issue we observed, however, is on the race track, with spectators and horse owners jumping in front of horses out of excitement as they are running. The onus is on us to work on that aspect and be cautious, as you never know what might happen. We will go back and highlight these concerns to the Namibia Horse Racing Association. I would also appeal to authorities to invest a bit in the turf clubs with perimeters, as it will be an investment well spent," he added.
