1 200 talented athletes invade NSSU Games

The Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) Games are expected to attract close to 1 200 athletes from all 14 regions as the battle for places in two elite teams begins today at 16:00.NSSU coordinator Solly Duiker has given assurance to the athletes that everything in place ahead of their big weekend.Namibia’s 14 regions will be competing in the country’s biggest school sport competition at the Independence Stadium.It is an event poised to produce top performances.“We have made sure that accommodation is sorted from in Windhoek and also Okahandja.The track is ready and the programme has been finalised, meaning that we are just ready to get going.“We expect at least 1 200 athletes from different schools to be part of the event,” Duiker said.Roll callSome of the regions started travelling on Thursday, while some of the closer regions only set off this morning.The regions are urged to be present for roll call and all arrangements by 12:00 this afternoon.The event will then officially start at 16:00 - until 21:00 - on the opening day before running from 08:00 to 13:00 tomorrow.“The good thing is that we are going to select an under-18 team to represent Namibia in France and another team to represent us at the Cossasa Athletics Games in South Africa.“The Games in France will be from 17 to 24 May, while a date is yet to be confirmed for the games in South Africa,” Duiker said.Namibia Media Holdings&#039; NTV will broadcast the games live.
