WHS defeats Moria in the fourth round
Before the game kicked off between Moria Private School and Windhoek High School (WHS), Moria coach Pieter-Willem Esterhuizen confidently said they had the best on the field to go against their competitors.
“We do not have any injuries and we believe that our school will beat one of these big teams.”
WHS coach Ainsley Daniels added that they started off the season a bit choppy. “I believe we fixed it and are now back on track.”
WHS tackled the game from the backline and focused on its opponent's backline. “Moria is a tough opponent as they are very physical,” Daniels said.
The game started with Moria coming off strong, however, it was short-lived after WHS captain Quirione Majiedt got hold of the ball and stormed for a try just after seven minutes in. Davito van Wyk rounded off with a conversion kick, bagging the blue team their first seven points.
The atmosphere was electric with both teams bringing their A-game. Eleven minutes in, WHS scored another three points after a penalty kick. Majiedt scored another try after a five-metre scrum, and shortly after, Armand Kotze bagged another try for his team.
After 20 minutes of play, Moria's Tolley Tjipute gained his team their first three points after a penalty kick. Janco Burger, also from Moria Private School, managed to clinch the last try.
Not as reactive
The game concluded with a seven-point difference with a full-time score of 30-23 in favour of WHS.
Esterhuizen said his team struggled to react.
“In the first half, we were not as awake and reactive as we would like to be. We need to work on our depth, communication skills in the backline and minimise throwing away balls,” he said.
On scoring the first try, Majiedt said it is always a great booster. “We had the first half possession but started slacking in the second half. We will strive to use every minute in the game to keep full possession.”
Round five of the super league will continue next weekend with the following teams:
- Walvis Bay Private School vs Dr Lemmer Secondary School
-Pro-Ed Academy vs Windhoek High School
-Windhoek Afrikaans Private School vs Windhoek Gymnasium
