The 39th National Sages Week was played at Rössmund Golf Club recently, sponsored by FNB Namibia.

The tournament saw a good turnout of more than 70 players per day including four players from South Africa representing Mossel Bay, Heidelberg, Outeniqua and Natal Central.

The visiting competitors joined Namibian players from Mariental, Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, Tsumeb, Okahandja and Rössmund.

The format for the tournament was an individual stableford with teams of four players and three scores to count on each day. Individual prizes were awarded on a daily basis and overall in divisions.

George Vink won the national Sages 2024 order of merit. Heidi Van Niekerk registered the best average score in the women’s category.

Achmet Abrahams emerged as the best player older than 70 years, with Clinton Dodds (94) the oldest player in the field.

Team Kestrals consisting of Achmet Abrahams, George Murasiki, Fred Bossé and Douw van Wyk took the win with 437 points. The Springboks (Rudi Auseb, Sigi Baumgartner, Wim Hollander and Gerhard Byleveld) followed in second place with 42. Third was Team Walvis Bay consisting of Wilma de Wet, Tienie de Wet, Rory Wolhuter and Rene Bosman with 417 points.

The A Division winners were Achmet Abrahams, Fred Bossé and Rory Wolhuter, while John Horne, Clive Lawrence and Rudi Auseb clinched the B Division. Rina Knight, Sigi Baumgartner and Lucille Abrahams took the C Division.

The Rössmund Golf Club management look forward to welcoming everybody again next year for the 40th anniversary of this prestige tournament and thanked FNB Namibia (since 2007) supported by CMW Glass Solutions, Super Spar Swakopmund, Fruit & Veg Swakopmund, Woermann & Brock Building Supplies for making the tournament possible.

The club will be hosting its annual Pink Golf Ball Day on Saturday 21 December 2024, sponsored by Medixx Occupational Health Services.
