The concluding race of the 2024 Nedbank Rock & Rut cross-country mountain bike series will take place at the new Towerbos Trails venue along Daan Viljoen road.

This final event of the series will determine the overall winners across various race categories.

Organiser Michael Hennes from the Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Club shared his excitement about the event, expecting 90 to 100 riders.

Notably, men's national champion Alex Miller will not compete as he will represent Namibia at the Paris Olympic Games next week.

Instead, the men’s elite title will see 19-year-old Kevin Lowe (Namibia Sports Awards 2023 junior sportsman of the year) and Martin Freyer (28) battle it out, with Lowe currently leading the points standings.

Mimi Hough is the sole contender for the female elite title.

“We will have three races on the day, with the first one set to start at 09:00,” Hennes said.

This year, the series introduced new venues like Farm Bergquell and Towerbos Trails, adding fresh challenges for the cyclists.

Hennes highlighted the positive feedback from riders and plans to continue developing these trails.

Nedbank Namibia's Selma Kaulinge expressed pride in the growth of cycling in Namibia.

Witnessing Vera Looser and Alex Miller take on the best of the best at the Paris Olympics, is testament that cycling events like the Nedbank Rock & Rut XC race series is honing talent specialized enough to represent the country at the biggest sporting congregation in Europe and the world, Kaulinge said.

She looks forward to concluding the series and crowning the winners this weekend.
