Kedecember was crowned the inaugural Longbeach Cricket Bash champions, securing a floating trophy and N$500 for their efforts. Johannes Erasmus of Kedecember was named Player of the Tournament, receiving a trophy and N$200.

The eventual champions and a youthful Sixers squad advanced to the final of the tournament, which is the brainchild of Zhivago Groenewald. Kedecember, comprising Johannes Erasmus, Lukas Machayi, Salomon Nuuyoma, Tawanda Ngwenya, and Nado Pasquallie, scored 49 runs. Sixers, featuring Kyle Carew, Gigi Kvilitaia, Theo Halukolo, Miguel Halukolo, and Chris Still, managed 29 runs.

Five teams competed in the inaugural edition of the tournament, which featured 10 tightly contested round-robin matches with an abundance of fours and some spectacular sixes landing in the ocean.

Each participating team consisted of six players, with six overs per team. The title contenders included Kedecember, Sixers, Longbeach Champs, Coastal Legends, and Carrots.

Groenewald, a former Namibian cricketer (left-handed batter and bowler), enlisted the help of his aunts to create the event as a way for family and friends to come together and enjoy cricket on the beach.

Namibian rugby player Damian Stevens (scrum-half/winger), who currently plays for NOLA Gold in the Major League Rugby in the United States, joined team Carrots for some fun on the beach during his holiday.

“This was the first tournament with a qualified scorer on site, and now we have a new sport to enjoy on the beach in December alongside Touchies and Volleyball. The interest and turnout were fantastic. The charity ‘Net Vir Die Is’ also contributed to the effort, ensuring the vibes were trendy and exciting,” Stevens said.

He added that the aim is to make the tournament an annual family event while raising funds for worthy causes. “We hope to have more teams participating next year,” he emphasised.
