Pirates hold Blue Waters to 1-1

The fourth round of the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League between Blue Waters and Orlando Pirates took place in Walvis Bay on Saturday.
Round 4’s matches of the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League between coastal giants Blue Waters and visiting Orlando Pirates produced an action-packed match for fans at the Jan Wilken Stadium on Saturday.
The feisty contested match finished in a 1-1 draw.
Backed by a vibrant full-capacity crowd, the “Beautiful Birds” under the mentorship of Lucky Shipanga started off with a storming start, launching numerous attacks in search of an early goal.
Blue Waters’ forward Isaskar Gurirab, facing his former team, with assistance from forward Pius Markias and midfielder Sem Ndahangwapo launched a well-coordinated shot in the 24th minute which hit the back of the net, too fast for Pirates’s goalkeeper Tshiamiso Pieters.
In an attempt to respond, Pirates launched what seemed like promising attacks, but couldn’t break through Blue Waters’ defence.
Pirates’ forward Romario Namib with assistance from Patrick Amutyakala launched a concerted effort, but was once again denied access by an alert keeper Calvin Spiegel.
After an eventful first half, Blue Waters managed to take a 1-0 lead.
During the second half, the Pirates upped their pace until forward Denzel Narib with assistance from forward Amutyakala found himself in a promising position and executed an accurate finish in the 65th minute, levelling the score.
In response, Blue Waters came storming back and applied pressure.
Blue Waters’ forward Gurirab with assistance from Markias came close with a shot that in the 77th minute that narrowly went wide. However, the score remained level (1-1), leaving both teams with having to settle for a point.
Blue Waters’ captain Pandeni Kandjabanga said the match did not go the way they expected.
“We were expecting to get three points. We made a lot of silly mistakes. We couldn’t couldn’t convert our chances, but it was a good game. Tomorrow (Sunday) we are facing African Stars and we are ready for it. It’s a going to be a big one, but we are ready for it,” he said.
Ongos take the points
At SKW Stadium, FC Ongos followed up from their stunning win over defending champions African Stars by beating Julinho Sporting 2-1.
The teams went into halftime at 1-1, before Desmond Bester scored his second goal of the match for Ongos (formerly known as Tura Magic).
Some inaccurate play in Julinho’s back division almost gifted Ongos a goal shortly before Bester rounded off an attack for the winning goal, against a mostly determined effort from the northern travellers.
The experienced and well-travelled Mapenzi Muwanei was the goal scorer for Julinho.
• At Okahandja, reigning champions African Stars got their campaign back on track with a 4-1 win against Okahandja United.
Peter Adiwoh, Starlile’s recent acquisition from the Ghanaian first division, struck with a hattrick, along with their fourth goal by Uetuuru Kambato, completed a strong second half for the visitors.
