The Namibia Wrestling Federation hosted its national championship at the Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) hall in Olympia on Saturday.

The event was graced by some of Namibia’s top wrestlers and lived up to expectations in an impressive display of talent.

Many had traveled from different parts of the country in an attempt to put their names in the record books as national title holders.

The wrestlers competed in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman (grips only to the upper body) categories.

African champion Charlo Dreyer was among the competitors, but was surprisingly beaten to second place in freestyle by Stefanovic Stefanus, and fourth place in Greco-Roman behind Paulus Alweendo.

Romeo Goliath, another established name in the local sport, also entertained the crown with a victory of his own.

Paulus Alweendo was on fire to be named the top performer of the tournament after beating on-form Stefanovic Stephanus in a decisive match in the under-17 category.

The event saw around 50 bouts taking place, with young wrestlers also in the mix in their age groups.

Top prospect Cliff Nguatjiti delivered some top performances in the under-20 category.

Organisers lauded the wrestlers after a day packed with thrilling action.

The event was broadcasted live on Namibia Media Holdings’ multi-media platforms, including the company’s television channel Network TV.

Some of the many impressive winners on the day include:
