Non-golfers introduced in NALGU mixed pairs

The Windhoek Golf Club hosted the Namibia Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU)’s third sponsored mixed pairs American scramble and betterball competition of the year last weekend.
NALGU, in collaboration with the Royal & Ancient, are on a mission to get more ladies to take up golf as a sport. Golfers were encouraged to get non-golfing ladies to join them in a fun-filled day on the course. In addition, golfing mixed pairs were also encouraged to participate.
And finally, all golfers that could not find an opposite sex partner were accommodated in a separate division. This was sponsored by the players.
Twenty-four pairs participated. Four golfer/non-golfer mixed pairs, ten golfing mixed pairs and nine men’s golfing and one men’s golfer/non-golfer pairs made up the numbers.

OMEYA
Omeya Golf Club presented round 5 of the Race to Omeya series last Saturday. Wind was blowing, but did not deter the players from delivering good scores. CZ Network sponsored this tournament. Winners were:
Overall winner: Armand van Dyk (41 points).
A Division: 1 Sean van Dyk (40 points), 2 Eugene Lofty-Eaton (39, count-out), 3 Eric Verburg (39).
B Division: 1 Heinrich Joodt (41), 2 John Chadiyawa (40, count-out), 3 Jean-Mark Mouton (40).
Seniors: 1 George Lumley (39, count-out), 2 Gert Lambert (39).
Women: 1 Dina Holtzhausen (40), 2 Lydia Lumley (36).
Juniors: 1 Declan Renton (41), 2 AJ van Wyk (36).
Nearest to the pin prizes were clinched by Dieter Schrywer (hole 4), Declan Renton (hole 7), Anecia le Grange (hole 14) and Paul Verburg Jnr (hole 17). Nearest to the pin in two shots were also up for grabs at hole 5 (Anton Kuhn) and hole 16 (Anecia le Grange).
WALVIS BAY
Walvis Bay Golf Club hosted Concord Plant and Crane Hire for their special Yellow Ball three-ball alliance competition last weekend.
Forty-two players aligned themselves to the “sorry partner” format. Little does one realise the pressure of the little yellow ball with no less than 36 holes, with the yellow ball counting double points.
Making good use of their handicaps, the team of Richard Majangara, Vennon Gapara and Nathaniel Mudzingwa came in with 121 points and clinched the first prize.
Oom Pikkie Champion, Bossie Bosman and Danie van Antwerpen on 118 followed in second, with Tienie and Wilma de Wet and Hannes Crafford taking third place on 117 points. The fourth prize went to Wouter van Wijk, Wayne Hart and Boel Grobbelaar on 108 with Emery and Emilio Maboh and Wensley Gaseb in the fifth spot on 107 points.
• The format for this weekend’s Bachmus golf day is a medal on the first nine holes and stableford on the second nine, with medal-minus-stableford determining the winner.
