NFA facilitates upskilling of local coaches

The Namibian Football Association (NFA) is facilitating a Confederation of African Football (CAF) level D course for coaches who have completed the Grassroots coaching course.

The course will take place from Sunday 6 October until Thursday 10 October in Walvis Bay. It forms part of the African Schools Football Championship for U15 teams, which will be hosted in the harbour town from Friday 11 October until Sunday 13 October.

The NFA’s director of marketing and sales, Isack Hamata, said the coaching course aligns with the NFA’s commitment to raising the standards in the country and ensuring that the quality of football is consistently improving.

“The NFA also plans to present coaching courses at various levels to create a pool of qualified coaches who can nurture talented players and contribute to the overall growth of football.”

He emphasised that CAF has set a prerequisite for coaches leading teams in prestigious continental competitions like the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup, and AFCON to have a CAF A diploma.

“The NFA will also soon enforce such requirements in the domestic leagues. It is therefore important for coaches to grab these opportunities so they are found ready when these requirements are enforced.”

Elvin Majiedt, the founder and chairman of Teenagers Football Club based in Swakopmund, and his partner Aluta Axoagub have been tasked as ground coordinators to get teachers involved as per instructions from CAF and the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa).

Majiedt explained: “The course will allow selected coaches to upgrade their football qualifications through the correct ‘global’ license pathway. Timo Tjongarero will be the instructor.

“The core objective is to equip and ensure that more coaches receive quality training. Our coaches must be on par with those from all over the world. This will help to improve the standard from grassroots, and subsequently, national team and elite football.”

The Global License pathway allows coaches to start with an introduction and the basics at local level. They then upgrade to the CAF D level and can then proceed to the Pro level.
