The Namibian Wrestling Federation (NWF) has announced that two of the country’s elite Greco-Roman wrestlers have been selected for an exclusive two-week training camp at the renowned Institut National du Sport, de l'Expertise et de la Performance (INSEP) in Paris, France. This prestigious opportunity is the result of a landmark agreement between United World Wrestling (UWW), the French Wrestling Federation, and INSEP.

Partially sponsored by the collaborating organizations, the training camp will provide world-class coaching, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and an invaluable chance to train alongside some of the best Greco-Roman wrestlers in the world. The intensive program is a key part of the NWF’s strategic preparations for the African Continental Championships, set to take place in April.

“This is a golden opportunity for our athletes,” said Anke Erasmus, Secretary-General of the NWF. “Training at INSEP, a globally recognized institution for elite sports, will significantly enhance their skills and readiness for the African Championships. We are incredibly grateful to United World Wrestling, the French Wrestling Federation, and INSEP for their support and for recognizing the potential of our Namibian wrestlers.”

Erasmus emphasized that as wrestling continues to grow as a priority sport in Namibia, opportunities like these are vital. “We are indebted to the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) for standing by Namibian wrestling and ensuring that our athletes can benefit from such an incredible experience,” she added.

The two selected wrestlers, Virinao Cliff Nguatjiti and Devin Shafaihuuna Benhard, have displayed exceptional commitment and talent, earning their places in this esteemed program. Their participation will not only enhance their individual careers but also contribute to the broader development of wrestling in Namibia.

“We believe that investing in our athletes' professional development is crucial for the growth of wrestling in Namibia,” said Colin Steytler, President of the NWF. “This training camp is a testament to our commitment to equipping our wrestlers with the best possible resources and opportunities to succeed on the international stage.”

The NWF extended its sincere gratitude to all stakeholders who helped make this initiative a reality and wished Nguatjiti and Benhard the best of luck in their training and upcoming competitions. As Namibia continues to make strides in wrestling, this opportunity in Paris marks a significant step toward greater success on the continental and global stage.
