Moses confident in Flame's ability

AC Boxing promoter Imms Moses is confident that Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo will prove his worth in his upcoming fight slated for 29 March. The 23-year-old Nangolo will feature in AC’s boxing bonanza which will be held at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek, in honour of the late Founding Father of the Namibian nation, Sam Nujoma. The undefeated Namibian boxer is pitted against a dangerous 30-year-old from Ghana, Felix Ajom. Moses says putting his boxer against an opponent with 17 knockout wins will be a proper test for his ambitions. “Yes, we know that he will be up against a good boxer, but I think it will be time that Nangolo shows he can be a world champion. “This is a good opponent for him and I am confident that he will prevail given his talent and skill. I have trained Nangolo since he was a young boy and I know what he is capable of in the ring,” Moses said. Nangolo currently boasts a record of 12 wins in 12 fights, of which he ended four by knockout. The Namibian however comes up against a much more experienced Ghanaian, who has already fought 23 times in his professional boxing career which started in December 2015. Ajom has a highly impressive record of 20 wins, with 17 knockouts, two losses and one draw in his professional career. He has never been knocked out, with one close points loss against his countryman Abraham Osei Bonsu in December 2017, fighting for the Ghanaian national super featherweight title. Ajom’s only other defeat was in December 2018, by majority points decision, fighting for the same national title against another dangerous countryman, Michael Ansah (now 23-13-3, with 17 KOs).Since then, Ajom is on a streak of nine wins in a row – having ended almost all of them by knockout except for one unanimous 12-round points win over Michael Pappoe in December 2019, which finally handed him the Ghanaian title at his third attempt.Somewhat surprisingly, the upcoming fight will be Ajom’s first outside his home country.The difference in knockout percentage (85% against 33.3%) suggests that Nangolo will have his work cut out keeping his hard-hitting opponent at bay.Strong under-card Moses further confirmed a number of interesting under-card fights which include the likes of former WBO Africa middleweight champion Walter Kautondokwa (18 W, 17 KOs, 2L).Kautondokwa was the undefeated WBO Africa middleweight title holder when he challenged Demetrius Andrade (USA) for the vacant WBO world title in Boston in October 2018, losing by unanimous decision.The hard-hitting boxer is set for a comeback fight against Zimbabwe’s Liberty Muwani (W4 L8) – his first professional appearance since losing on points to Kanat Islam of Kazakstan in Almaty in October 2019.The bonanza will also see former WBO African welterweight champion Charles Shinima back in action following his recent ten-round points defeat to Brandon Thysse in South Africa. Moses says: “This is a great opportunity for Charles to bounce back and also an opportunity for the rest of the fighters to showcase their talent. “I am inviting the fans to come in their numbers as we honour the late Founding Father of the Namibian Nation.“It will also going to be the first boxing bonanza under the new administration, given that there will be a newly inaugurated president of the republic that time.”Harry Simon Junior will defend a clean professional record (W22 L0 D1) against Tranos Zihove (four wins, five losses) of Zimbabwe. Simon’s most recent fight was a draw against unbeaten countryman Abed Shikongo over 12 rounds in Windhoek last December.Tickets at the gate are selling for N$300, while a table for ten VIPs will sell for N$15 000.
