Mercado beat Nakathila
Boxing
Unbeaten American lightweight Ernesto “Tito” Mercado scored a second round technical knockout over former world title challenger, Namibia’s Jeremiah “Low Key” Nakathila on Saturday night at the LumColor "Phoenix Center" in Ontario, California.
Mercado (now 13-0, with 12 knockouts) dropped Nakathila (23-4, 19 KOs) in round two during a combination where he may also possibly have stepped on the Namibian’s foot to bring him off-balance.
Nakathila got up with a brief stumble and certainly appeared stunned.
Seconds later, Mercado got a referee’s stoppage with his follow-up barrage, which included the Namibian stumbling into the ropes and also into the referee after the fight was waved off.
Nakathila complained about the stoppage – which did seem quick. Regardless, the decision stood, with Mercado celebrating by jumping onto the ropes and throwing his mouth guard into the crowd.
