Lotter sank Titans for victory

Lotter took control
Cricket Namibia's first division cricket title was decided in scorching heat with high humidity this past weekend in the capital. But the conditions did not hinder the two teams from battling it out in a fierce duel.

Imperial Wanderers 2 bagged Cricket Namibia's 40-over first division trophy by 122 runs versus the Shaheen Titans at Wanderers in Pionierspark on Saturday afternoon.

The Titans won the toss and rightfully sent the hosts in to bat first. Wanderers reached 215 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allowed 40 overs. The Titans could unfortunately only manage to answer with 93 runs (all out) in 33.



Pressure

However, Wanderers were under pressure in 19 overs with 6 wickets down for 76 runs. But then Gerhard Lotter stepped in to take control of the duel at number 7. He chased 9 fours and 4 sixes to the boundary for his 102* (not out) from 74 deliveries with ease, while the rest of the batters only achieved 8 boundaries among them.

The opening batter, Wessel Myburgh, contributed 35 (37 balls, 5x4), the second highest score, followed by Steven Delport (28* r, 37 b, 2x4). The rest of the batters were dismissed for 3, 9, 7, 7, 1 and 3.



The Titans’ innings

Muhammad Waqas on 1 (25 r, 44 b, 3x4) and Muhammad Kashif on 4 (30 r, 95 b, 1x4) fought a lonely battle versus the spin bowlers of Wanderers. They were dismissed for 1, 5, 0, 2, 0, 1, 11, 1 and 1.

For the Titans, Riaz Ali Shah took 3 wickets for 36 runs in 8 overs; Muhammad Asif (2/23 in 7); Muhammad Waqas (1/33 in 8) and Muhammed Bin Ejaz (1/64 in 8).

Wanderers’ Herschelle van Schalkwyk (3/12 in 5) and PD Blignaut (3/17 in 8) were unplayable. Hansie de Villiers (1/10 in 4), Michael Durant (1/12 in 8), and Tommie van der Merwe (1/20 in 4) also contributed to their team’s victory.

The Shaheen Titans are Asif Shujah, Imran Khan, Ishfaq Ahmed, Kamran Muhammad, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Kashif, Muhammad Saleem (captain), Muhammad Waqas, Muhammed Bin Ejaz, Rehman Ali and Riaz Ali Shah.
