Leon Nienaber elected president of AN
Athletics
Veteran administrator Erwin Naimhwaka was replaced by the newly elected Leon Nienaber from Swakopmund as president of Athletics Namibia (AN_), following the annual general meeting in Windhoek on Saturday morning.
The Namibian Sports Act’s clause that restricts national sports governing bodies from electing any member onto its executive structure for a period longer than ten years meant that Naimhwaka was no longer eligible.
The full executive board for the term 2025 to 2029 that was elected on Saturday is as follows:
President: Leon Nienaber (Erongo).
Vice-president: Mwila Modestus (Oshikoto).
Secretary-general: Nic Geldenhuys (Khomas).
Secretary (track and field): Bethold Karumendu (Erongo).
Secretary (road running): Moses Teofelus (Ohangwena).
Secretary (cross-country): Remigius Iyambo (Oshana).
Secretary (officials): Cecilia Nepembe (Omusati).
Secretary (coaching): Henk Botha (Khomas).
Secretary (selections): Meriam Minin (Khomas).
Secretary (publicity): Edward Kapewasha (Ohangwena).
Secretary (medical and anti-doping): Victoria Katukula (Khomas).
