Excitement is building as top-seeded players gear up for the Namibia Tennis Association's (NTA) latest national Sanlam junior tournament.

The event, set to kick off on Friday at 14:30 until Saturday, will see boys and girls competing in singles and doubles across various age groups, including U10, U12, U14, U16 and under-25.

Young talents will showcase their skills at the Central Tennis Club, Sport Klub Windhoek and Nampol courts.

The competition will see 59 players battle it out for much-valued ranking points towards the universal tennis ranking (UTR), considered for the selection of the national team and the Masters Tennis Tournament slated for 1 November.

Competition organisers Daniël du Toit and Larushka Kruger said the girls participating in the U16 category will be merged with the experienced senior girls to go up against the boys in the U25 mixed category.

“This weekend’s competition will also feature a new player in the U25 mixed category. Clara du Toit is a Namibian player who competes in the ITF circuit internationally. She will be participating in our competition for the first time and it should be quite interesting to witness,” they said.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held immediately after the games on Saturday, where players have a chance at gold, silver and bronze medals in the singles, as well as gold and silver medals in the doubles.

The organisers extended their gratitude to Sanlam for sponsoring the tournament and parents for their support. “Sanlam is a key sponsor for the event and contributes significantly towards the success of the tournament, which allows us to also support development players taking part in the tournament.”
