Goals galore scored at the coast
On target
The two coastal Premier League soccer giants produced outstanding performances and a feast of goals.
Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters produced stylish Debmarine Namibia Premier League match-winning performances on Saturday at Jan Wilken Stadium.
Eleven Arrows returned to winning ways after coming back from a goal down and defeating Tura Magic by 3-1 in the first match played. Both teams attacked relentlessly in the first quarter of play. Arrows created the first chance but could not find the back of the net. Tura Magic wasted no time, with striker Nicodemus Haikali scoring the opening goal (1-0) in the 16th minute of the game.
Fast-paced game
Both teams piled on the pressure and played the match at a blistering pace. Haikali nearly stretched the visitors lead, but an alert Arrows goalie, Denzel Shafetango, pushed his shot to safety.
Arrows searched hard for the equaliser and were aptly rewarded when Angelo Immanuel found the back of the net (1-1) moments before the whistle went for half-time.
When play resumed after the break, Arrows systematically stamped their authority on the match with some slick passing and dominated proceedings. Rivaldo Festus rounded off a superb buildup and handed Arrows the lead (2-1) in the 64th minute.
Good attitude
Arrows pushed hard and pressurised the Tura Magic defence in search of another goal. Festus eventually added his second and third goals (3-1) for his team.
"We knew exactly what we wanted and what we had to do. We are placed at the bottom of the log and are now fighting our way up. When we went a goal down, the boys realised that we had to keep pushing; our opponents will make mistakes and goals will eventually come," said Eleven Arrows captain Junias Theophilus.
Arrows assistant coach Rudolf Bester said his team's fighting spirit brought them the win. "This is our home ground, and we showed spirit and the belief that we can make it happen for us. Johannes Matanga and our captain Junias Theophilus definitely put in match-winning performances for us."
Blue Waters Vs Unam FC
Blue Waters defeated Unam FC 5-0 in the second match.
Steven Damaseb hit the back of the net (1-0) for the 'Beautiful Birds' in the 15th minute.
Junior Petrus doubled the Blue Waters lead (2-0) with a long range effort that saw Unam keeper Owne Gariseb clutching at air.
Pandeni Kandjabanga continued the scoring (3-0) for Blue Waters in the second half. Israel Shikongo pounced and added a fourth goal (4-0) for Blue Waters after a slip-up between Gariseb and his defenders. Referee Naftal Negongo handed out seven yellow cards as tempers flared and emotions came to a boil.
Shikongo added his second and Blue Waters' fifth goal (5-0).
Blue Waters captain Gregory Aukumeb said it was a wonderful feeling to rake in another win. "We are happy and grateful. I have to thank our supporters and coaching staff. My teammates also delivered a solid performance. They all played their part in ensuring this win."
High spirits.
Blue Waters coach Lukcy Shipanga said it was a valuable three points in the bag for his side. "I declared war on Unam. They beat us 1-0 last time in Windhoek because we allowed them to play. After today, we know where we stand. The boys are responding well to our tactical approach and processes. The confidence of our players and their spirits are high in our camp. We are scoring goals and defending well."
Shipanga named his goalkeeper Immanuel Immanuel as his star performer in the match.
