The Nedbank Cycle Challenge makes its return to the tarmac after its 2024 hiatus, which was due to the mourning period observed after the passing of His Excellency, Dr Hage Geingob, who passed on in February last year.

Dubbed ‘The Greatest Ride Under the Sun’, the popular annual event debuted in 1986 and has since become one of the oldest and most prestigious competitive road cycling races in Namibia.

In its most recent edition, the event saw over 750 cyclists participating in the various distances of 100 kilometres, 60 km, 30 km and 20 km.

A quick glance through the top ten men and women of the 2023 event serves as a reminder of the highly sought-after profile of the event among elite riders.

2023 elite men 100 km: 1 Drikus Coetzee, 2 Konny Looser (Switzerland), 3 Ingram Cuff, 4 Xavier Papo, 5 Gerhard Mans junior, 5 Daniel Hahn, 7 Danzel de Koe, 8 Kevin Lowe, 9 Theuns van der Westhuizen, 10 Matheus Kambuta Karukango.

2023 elite women 100 km: 1 Risa Dreyer, 2 Belinda van Rhyn, 3 Nicola Fester, 4 Jaen-Marie Mostert, 5 Benita Windisch, 6 Irene Steyn, 7 Marissa Mouton, 8 Anneke Steenkamp, 9 Sandra Lippert, 10 Elanor Grassow.

This year's race, scheduled for Sunday 13 April, will feature the same race distance categories. The race will start at 07:00 at Nedbank Campus, on the corner of Fidel Castro and Rev. Michael Scott Street, and conclude on Independence Avenue in front of Zoo Park.

Entries into the 2025 Nedbank Cycle Challenge open on 27 March. Cyclists can enter via the PayToday platforms. Entries will close on 9 April at 00h00.

Registration for the Nedbank Cycle Challenge will take place on Saturday 12 April at the Nedbank Campus, where entrants can collect their race numbers for the event (14:00–16:00).
