The Namibia national Futsal team will step into the limelight at the Windhoek Showgrounds at 19:00 this Saturday to take on Tanzania in the first leg of qualifiers for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The NTV production team will bring viewers the live broadcast of this historic match – on NTV, NMH’s Facebook pages as well as on https://oneuptwo.com/

The mens’ team of 16 players, sponsored by JSB Sports Betting, initially consisted of 22 provisional squad members.

The Namibians will have their second and deciding leg against Tanzania next Sunday, 11 February, to decide which of these nations will take its place in Morocco in April.

The Futsal Namibia founder, Andrei Tirtirau, said: “The boys have been in the training camp for the past month, and we look forward to showcasing our talents against Tanzania this weekend.

“To qualify for AFCON on our first try would be an amazing achievement as this is something everyone has their hearts on.”

According to reporting, the best three teams from AFCON will stand a chance for coveted spots to represent Africa at the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup from 14 September to 5 October in Uzbekistan.

Participating squad

The 16 players in the Futsal Namibia squad includes Cee-Jay van Wyk (Selecao Football Club), Alpha Sankoh (Quality FC) and Riya Usurua (Ballers FC) who will be the goalkeepers.

The defence will see Quality FC’s Eduardo Solunga, Donald Modise of Ballers FC and Nangui Kamatuka (Windhoek Futsal) own up to the task. Midfielders will be George Haikali (Ballers FC), Remario Mathys (Chile FC), Maximillian Boll (Ballers FC), Kagiso Daniel (Windhoek Futsal) and Vilo Lawrence of Selecao Football Club.

The forward positions are entrusted to Ken Solunga (Quality FC), Wesley Otto (Chile FC), Johannes Naiteta (Chile FC) and Windhoek Futsal’s Denzel Mulunga.

To aid the team in its preparations for AFCON, the JSB Sports Betting last week donated N$300 000 at the Namibia Football Association Technical Centre in Windhoek.

“Having started Futsal Namibia in 2020 with only 80 players, without even following strict FIFA rules, seeing our affiliations now and how much we have grown with 1080 players last year is exciting,” said Tirtirau.
