FNB Women’s Super League returns
Football
The FNB Women’s Super League players will finally have a chance to battle again as the league fixtures return this coming weekend.
The league was paused, like many other football leagues, following the passing of the Founding Father, Sam Nujoma, last month.
However, the teams will prepare for action this coming weekend, with clashes set to take place in different parts of the country.
One of the standout clashes of the weekend will be between two top teams in the league when Beauties FC confronts their old foes, Ongos Ladies FC, at the NFA Technical Center on Friday.
Beauties FC have started the season firing on all cylinders, leading the league with 22 points after eight matches.
Their opponents, Ongos Ladies FC, currently sit in third place with 20 points from eight matches.
Ongos Ladies FC coach, Shama Gure, admitted that it will be a crucial match for his side.
“We are facing a strong Beauties FC team that is currently leading the log, but our main focus will be to get maximum points this weekend.
“We are third on the table but still have high hopes of reaching the top if the team works hard.
“As a team known for good results, our motto remains to push hard and ensure we get the maximum points,” Gure said.
African Stars Queen, who currently have the same points as Beauties FC, will face Windhoek City Soccer Club at Uukwangula Stadium in northern Namibia.
UNAM Bokkies, on the other hand, are set to battle Namib Daughters at the UNAM Stadium on Saturday.
Julinho Athletics will take on V-Power Angels at the NFA Technical Center, followed by a match between Okahandja FC and Arrows Ladies.
Sunday’s fixtures will see Beauties FC clashing with Khomas Nampol FC, while Ongos Ladies FC take on NUST Babes.
Ongos Ladies FC were officially crowned champions of the FNB Women's Super League after going through the season undefeated, winning 21 out of 22 games, scoring 105 goals, and conceding only 11.
