Fighters from RSA and Zim take on African champions

Boxers from South Africa and Zimbabwe yesterday faced off to their headlining Namibian opponents in the build-up to MTC Nestor Sunshine Promotions fight night at the Windhoek Show Grounds on Saturday, a tribute event – free to spectators – honouring the late Founding Father Sam Nujoma.Fillipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa will defend his WBO Africa super bantamweight title against Zimbabwean challenger Hassan Milanzi. Both opponents preferred to talk in minimal terms, stating that their fists will do the talking in the ring.“You know, I am ready for the fight. I think it is going to be an easy boxing fight for me. “I will do the talking in the ring and would just like to invite many Namibians to come in their numbers,” Nghitumbwa said. His opponent Milanzi said anything is possible and he is looking forward to the fight. “This boxer has some losses on his record and that shows that he can be defeated. I am here to fight and will make sure that I give my best in the ring on Saturday,” Milanzi said. Mateus “The Beast” Heita – ranked 13th in the world by the WBO – will look to retain his undefeated record of 14 wins (nine by knockout) as he defends his WBO Africa featherweight title against South Africa’s Abdul-Aziz Kunert (12-3-1, three knockouts).Heita declared he is prepared and looking forward to face the Capetonian.“This Saturday I am going to put up a great show and my opponent must know he will face a beast,” Heita remarked. Kunert has welcomed the fight and is confident of winning the title. “I have to thank God for the gift of boxing. Now I will be going in ready to take the title to South Africa,” Kunert said.
