The Swakopmund Beach Soccer Tournament is set to provide much entertainment from Saturday until the public holiday on Monday, 26 August.
The venue is the Swakopmund Platz Am Meer beach area.
At the tournament’s launch last month, deputy minister of sport Emma Kantema shared the government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young talent through sports.
“The Swakopmund Beach Soccer Cup represents our vision of unity, wellness promotion, and providing a constructive outlet for our youth,” she said.
“Beyond its sporting essence, this initiative fosters social cohesion, instils healthy habits, and offers an alternative to negative influences like crime and substance abuse.”
As the ambassador of the Beach Cup, former national football team head coach Ricardo Mannetti spoke on the transformative potential of beach soccer in harnessing Namibia's natural resources, urging the community to creatively utilize existing infrastructure.
“We must use what we have,” Mannetti advised.
A member of the organising committee, Xavier Christians, shared excitement for the large interest already shown by the public.
“As we gear up for the tournament in Swakopmund, we invite the public to join us in supporting this endeavour, whether through active participation, sponsorship, or simply attending. Together, we can ensure this inaugural event sets the stage for a vibrant future for beach soccer in Namibia.”
