The 10th and final edition of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup is set to take place on 19 October 2024 at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
Since its inception in 2014, the tournament has grown to become a symbol of national pride and unity in Namibia, and this last edition promises to be a memorable event.
Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) has been a key partner throughout this journey.
Waldemar von Lieres, NBL's finance director, stated: “NBL has been proud to be part of this journey from the beginning in 2014.
“Over the years, the cup has grown to br not just a sports event, but also a symbol of national pride and unity.”
MTC, another long-standing supporter, is equally committed to ensuring a successful conclusion to the tournament.
Tim Ekandjo, MTC's chief human capital, marketing and corporate affairs officer, emphasized the significance of this final edition.
“From the first day we started this, we always said the 10th edition was going to be the last, and it's possible to end it on a high,” Ekandjo said.
The extravaganza will feature three football matches: the men’s Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League winner, African Stars FC, will face PstBet NFA Cup title holder Eeshoke Chula Chula, while in the women’s event, Ongos Ladies will compete against Girls & Goals.
Ongos Ladies won the last season of the FNB Women’s Super League, as well as the first-ever PstBet NFA Cup for women. Their challengers also competed in the top-flight of both the league and cup competitions.
Additionally, a celebrity football match will take place, featuring prominent Namibian figures such as Miss Namibia Jamila Uiras, legendary sprinter and four-time Olympic Games medallist Frankie Fredericks, as well as leading musicians Gazza, Tate Buti and King Tee Dee.
The winners of the men’s match will receive N$300 000, while the runners-up will take home N$150 000.
In the women’s match, the winners will be awarded N$200 000, and the runners-up N$100 000.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Geingob family to support the establishment of the Dr. Hage Geingob Memorial Library.
