The Black Label Social Development League, initiated by Team Apex to identify talent countrywide for the Namibia Pool and Billiard Federation, recently featured a match between Team Vortex and Das Bos at the Boiler Room in Windhoek. Das Bos won 11-5.

Doran Schoeman of Das Bos was named player of the match after winning all four frames.

Despite being thrilled about his success, Schoeman acknowledged the talented and skilled players who participated in the competition.

“There is incredible talent here tonight. There are so many skilled players coming up the ranks, helping to grow the sport alongside us,” he said on Thursday evening.

Emphasising the importance of facilities, he said: “It’s venues like this that make the growth of [pool and billiard] possible by giving players a stage to showcase their talent and keep the sport moving forward.

Camaraderie and enjoyment

He further underscored camaraderie and enjoyment, indicating that “ultimately, we’re all here to have a good time, and so far, it's been great.”

Das Bos captain Theo Thalwitzer indicated that their win is a testament to genuine love for the game, emphasising that enjoyment is their primary motivation, rather than a professional commitment.

“We just love playing and do it as much as we can, even competing in other leagues. As long as we have the chance to play, we’ll keep at it!” he assured.

Positive attitude

Acknowledging that Das Bos gave them “a good beating”, Vortex captain Japie van den Heever maintained a positive attitude. “We like playing the game of pool and we are here to enjoy the game, win or lose.”

He noted that with more practice and focus, they could improve, but as amateurs with day jobs, they play primarily for enjoyment.

Das Bos comprised Marnus Smith and Francois du Plessis, with Schoeman and Thalwitzer.

Team Vortex was represented by Rudi Oosthuizen, Lukas Maree and Jeandre “Fish” Fisher, alongside Van der Heever.
