The founder of the Harders Cup tournament, Tim Ekandjo, is inviting all Namibians to go and witness the annual event at the southern coastal town of Lüderitz this weekend.

Football teams from across the country’s south will compete for bragging rights and prize monies.

“This is one of the biggest football tournaments in the country and I must say that all is set for the competition to kick off.

“I want to invite football loving fans to come in their numbers and witness the cream of local football.

“The tournament can also serve as a platform for scouts to come through and find the best talent,” Ekandjo said.

The event which started out as a Lüderitz-based soccer tournament has since grown to regional relevance, with 20 teams from the Namibia Football Association’s southern stream competing.

The prize monies has been doubled, making it the third-biggest event of its kind in Namibia with N$420 000 in prize monies.

The winning team will receive N$200 000; the silver medalists N$100 000, bronze winners N$50 000 and fourth place N$30 000.

Individually, the top goal scorer and player of the tournament will each receive a cool N$20 000.

All teams will receive a brand new pair of kit. The Harders Cup will also award one deserving student a bursary every year.

As usual, the event will conclude with the much-anticipated Harders Music Bash that will see more than ten artists on stage.

The fourth edition of the tournament commences today and will continue until Sunday.

This year’s event will be delivered at a total budget of N$1.7 million.

A gala dinner held earlier raised an amount of N$320 000 in pledges with its founder Tim Ekandjo and Debmarine each pledging N$100 000, supported by Seaflower and Namdeb with N$50 000 each and the Mayoral Fund and Naftal Trading each N$10 000.
