The Central representatives, from the last of the regional finals of the Windhoek Lager International Pairs series, was decided on Saturday at the Windhoek Golf Club as Alfie “Panther” Ndyenge and Penda Naanda won the competition.

Forty-four pairs from Mariental, Okahandja, Omeya and Windhoek’s golf clubs battled each other in windy conditions. Even players from Windhoek Golf Club struggled to properly control the ball’s flight in the wind.

A rough outfield was also just waiting to nestle the white ball cuddly somewhere out of sight of the players.

Naanda and Ndyenge however did not seem to let themselves be swayed by the wind’s whims. With 48 points, the duo reduced Gerrit Louw and Corné Karsten (44 points) into second place, while Mereki Shoozi and Ralph Blaauw took the third position with 43 points.

The top 17 pairs from the Central region will face pairs from the Coast, North and South in the national final on 15 and 16 September at the Omeya Course (first day) and Windhoek Golf Club (second day).

The Central region’s pairs for the national final are: 1 Ndyenge/Naanda, 2 Louw/Karsten, 3 Shoozi/Blaauw, 4 Keith Gardiner/Mike Beavis, 5 Chuka Okafor/Julian Stoffels, 6 Thomas Shitaleni/Joseph Martin, 7 Peter Nginyotwa/Inocencio Verde, 8 Jolene van Schoor/George Vink, 9 Lydia Lumley/George Lumley, 10 Lukas Hamata/Johannes Xoagub, 11 Burger van Taak/Andrew Dodds, 12 Dietrich Schrywer/Dmitri Renton, 13 Victor Nghifindaka/Peter Shikongo, 14 Lukas Dreyer/Abrie van Wyk, 15 Hendrik Malan/Jan Conradie, 16 Burger Bergh/Izak van Tonder, 17 Dewald Coetzee/Raymond van Zyl.

Only the winning pair of Namibia’s national final in the Windhoek Lager International Pairs will proceed to take on the world’s best amateur pairs in Portugal.

The annual series’ World finals are scheduled to take place from 6 to 10 November at the Royal Obidos and Bom Secesso Golf Club Resort in Lisbon.
