Reflecting on National Disability Day, celebrated each year in Namibia on 10 June, Rachel Shiweda, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) technical advisor to Namibia, wrote an article highlighting the importance of the day.

"The day commemorates, celebrates, and focuses on a very underserved community in Namibia. It was created to make people understand that we need to live in a nation with zero discrimination against persons with disabilities," she writes.

Shiweda explains that National Disability Day embodies the principle of 'Leave No One Behind' and is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She further emphasises that the GIZ in Namibia collaborates with national stakeholders to foster equity in the country.
