Candidate Master Moyo wins chess tournament
The 2022 Bank Windhoek Kehat Beukes Legacy chess tournament was again presented in Swakopmund this year after it had to be held in Windhoek for two years due to Covid-19. The Namibia Chess Federation hosted the event last Saturday and Sunday (17 and 18 December) at the Swakopmund Municipal Training Centre.
The competition attracted local and international chess enthusiasts and players who competed for top honors over nine rounds. Each round lasted 50 minutes, and the players participated according to the World Chess Federation rules. There were also foreign players, mainly from Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Many local players also traveled from towns such as Grootfontein, Ongwediva and Windhoek to participate in the tournament.
Candidate Master Dion Moyo walked away with the top position after winning seven rounds and drawing in two. Second place went to Jossy Uapingene, and in third place was Goodwill Khoa.
The Chess Federation thanked Bank Windhoek for its continued sponsorship of this event. The Bank Windhoek Kehat Beukes Legacy Chess Tournament is the oldest in the country dating back to 1994.
