Youth group launches campaign against drug, alcohol abuse
News in short
Last week, the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Youth of Namibia took to the streets of Otjomuise in Windhoek to launch a year-long campaign aimed at tackling drug and alcohol abuse.
The initiative seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, especially among the youth.
AFM Youth of Namibia national chairperson Patrick Molutsi emphasised the urgent need for action in light of the alarming rates of drug and alcohol abuse among young people.
"We live in a sick society where young people abuse drugs," he noted. "By experimenting with drugs, they damage their own futures."
According to vice-chairperson Benjamin Jansen, "the church and young people are taking a progressive stance against the evil" that is substance abuse.
"We want to work with faith-based and community-based organisations to eliminate this scourge," he added.
The campaign plans to implement a multifaceted prevention programme in all 14 regions of Namibia. This programme will include community response projects, public workshops and multi-section engagement through motivational speaking.
