Two young LGBTQ supporters, a man and a woman, were arrested today at Zoo Park in Windhoek after waving a 'pride flag' near fewer than 150 supporters of the Christian Coalition of Churches in Namibia march who were protesting against the High Court's decision on same-sex marriages.
The two individuals emphasised that human rights are for everyone and said the anti-gay group promotes hate.
Tanja Bause from Namibia Media Holdings was at the scene and said the anti-gay protestors confronted the two LGBTQ supporters, then called the police, and insisted on the arrest of the two youngsters.
Elizabeth Joseph from Namibian Sun reported that earlier this morning, the anti-gay coalition handed over a petition against the court's decision to deputy minister of home affairs, Daniel Kashikola.
From there, the group walked to Zoo Park, where they held a prayer session. From the north, Tuyeimo Haidula of Namibia Media Holdings, reported that the planned mass protest in the Oshana Region against the court's decision was a huge failure, with only Pastor Samuel Hendricks from the Redeem Christian Church in Ongwediva showing up.
The march was scheduled for 10:00, and by 11:20, only the pastor was present.
