'I did not leave my husband for the prophet'
A local medical doctor has dismissed allegations that she left her husband for a self-proclaimed prophet from Ghana.
Dr Kaarina Martin told Namibian Sun that claims by local news platform Kalahari Reporters that she divorced her husband Brighton Nyathi to be with Nathaniel ‘Nene’ Vanderpuye of PNNV Ministries were devoid of any truth. PNNV Ministries was catapulted into the news recently after it emerged that a male doctor - who was arrested on allegations of raping his seven-year-old son - was an active member of that church, with Kalahari Reporters dubbing it a ‘cult’.
Martin found herself at the centre of the controversy when Kalahari Reporters wrote that the ‘religious cult’ is attended by some doctors from Katutura State Hospital. She and the man accused of raping his own son work together.
The news platform added that authorities are now scrutinising the ministry to determine whether other children of church members may have been sexually abused in the name of ‘seeking powers’ following the male doctor's recent arrest.
“Some of the female members are currently filing for divorce from their spouses. Believers called ‘Nenenites’ change their surnames online to Vanderpuye. Dr Prophetess Kaarina Vanderpuye [Martin] has since moved in with the prophet [Nathaniel Vanderpuye] and filed for divorce after meeting [him],” Kalahari Reporters reported.
Spiteful
In response, Martin said Kalahari Reporters is owned by Confidence ‘Musa’ Musariri, whom she accused of being spiteful because she divorced his close friend. “[Musariri] is avenging his fellow Zimbabwean and close friend, Nyathi, whom I divorced earlier this year,” she said.
She added that Musariri did their wedding introduction and promised to be her confidant, but she later discovered that he had other intentions. He allegedly tried to convince her to leave Nyathi and even made advances towards her, which she refused.
“He is using his social media influence and journalism background to cyberbully me and tarnish my image. I left because the marriage was not working and he knows this, as I used to tell him everything. My ex-husband [Nyathi] was emotionally and physically abusive. His family members, including Musariri, used to harass me in that marriage,” she said.

Martin added that the end of her marriage had nothing to do with her new relationship, which she claimed started only after she had already filed for divorce. “They [Kalahari Reporters] must leave my divorce and the doctor's case out of the church. It has nothing to do with my divorce and religion,” she fumed.
Namibian Sun has been reliably informed that Vanderpuye lives in Namibia, but Martin insisted that he has, in fact, only been visiting.
She also addressed accusations against the so-called prophet, clarifying that he does not run a church there, let alone a cult. She claimed that Musariri is falsely accusing Vanderpuye and linking him to unrelated scandals to tarnish his reputation.
"The PNNV organisation does not own a physical church in Namibia, nor does it have any members here. The prophet did not come to Namibia to run a church, but to visit two friends. Additionally, the children of... members of PNNV Ministries are not used for sexual acts in a quest for power, as reported by Kalahari Reporters. I am going to sue them for defamation of character. These accusations are baseless," Martin said.
Musariri refused to comment on the matter.
