UNFPA donates to Kavango West GBV shelter
NEWS IN SHORT
Kavango West police has received a generous donation of essential items valued at N$24 000 from UNFPA through the gender and poverty eradication ministry.
Receiving the donation, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, the regional commander of Kavango West, expressed gratitude for the much-needed support. She highlighted that the donation would directly benefit the gender-based violence (GBV) shelter at the Nkurenkuru police station, which houses victims of domestic violence and other vulnerable individuals. The shelter provides temporary accommodation, food and bedding to those in need.
Sakuwa-Neo acknowledged UNFPA's swift response, noting that the donation stemmed from discussions held in 2024, where requests for support were made. She said the shelter accommodates up to 10 victims at a time, and providing for their basic needs is a continuous challenge. The donated items will help ease the burden and improve conditions for those seeking refuge.
